Hatha Yoga
About Shealagh, Certified Hatha Yoga Teacher
Having taught sea kayaking and competitive swimming for years, Shealagh noticed that even with athletes many people are still out of touch with how the body moves and speaks. Through the classical poses and mantras, she has found a lighter path toward body awareness and new energy for her active lifestyle. Shealagh works in many capacities with vulnerable populations and persons with disabilities, and believes that anyone can attain a pose and everyone can find light and guidance in their own breath. Shealagh received her teaching training from Roxanne Joly and Loren Crawford in the lineage of Swami Rama. She has also studied with Dr. Robert Webber in Halifax and a form of Buddhist traditional movement mixed with yoga in South Korea for 2 years. Shealagh challenges her students to acheive a state of body through the breath and a state of mind through the body.
Why Yoga?
Over 5,000 years of practice can't be wrong- yoga began as a practice to bring the mind and body together (yoga means "union"), and has revealed several health benefits over time. Yoga helps build strength, stamina, and focus for all body types, sizes and abilities. It also actively flushes the body of toxins, muscle stiffness, and other blockages that we develop in our stressful lives. Yoga works on revitalizing your natural energy- focusing your energy where it is needed, and often curing insomnia. Working with the breath through various poses, the mind also benefits from improved concentration and eventually relaxation.
